National Veterinary Institute and Tecon Pharmaceutical Inc. Strengthen Collaboration on Veterinary Diagnostic Technologies

The National Veterinary Institute (NVI) hosted a delegation from Tecon Pharmaceutical Inc., China, on July 12, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen international collaboration in veterinary diagnostics.

The visit follows earlier engagements between the two institutions, including the recent visit of NVI’s senior management and Board members to China, where both parties initiated discussions on strategic cooperation in veterinary diagnostic kit development and technology transfer.
During the meeting, experts and senior officials from both organizations reviewed and discussed a draft collaborative technical work plan designed to guide future joint activities. The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including the development, validation, and application of advanced veterinary diagnostic technologies.

A major outcome of the visit was the signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) between the two institutions, providing a framework for the secure exchange of scientific, technical, and commercial information necessary for collaborative research and product development.
Under the proposed partnership, Tecon Pharmaceutical Inc. will provide 24 different veterinary diagnostic kits covering molecular diagnostics, gold colloidal rapid tests, and serological (ELISA) diagnostic platforms. These technologies will support the enhancement of veterinary disease diagnosis, surveillance, and control programs.

The collaboration will include technical cooperation, capacity-building and training programs, field validation of diagnostic kits, performance evaluation studies, and reporting of validation results. Speaking during the signing ceremony, Dr. Takele Abayneh, Chief Executive Officer of the National Veterinary Institute, emphasized the importance of international partnerships in strengthening veterinary diagnostic. “This collaboration represents an important milestone in our efforts to expand access to modern veterinary diagnostic technologies. By combining our expertise and resources, we aim to strengthen disease surveillance, improve diagnostic capacity, and accelerate the development of quality veterinary products that support Ethiopia’s livestock sector and the wider region.”

Dr. Takele further noted that NVI is committed to fostering partnerships that facilitate technology transfer, knowledge exchange, and scientific advancement, in line with the institute’s vision of becoming a regional center of excellence in veterinary vaccines, diagnostics, and biological products. NVI has continued to expand its research, diagnostic, and vaccine production capacities through national and international collaborations.

Representatives of Tecon Pharmaceutical Inc. expressed their appreciation for the partnership and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to working closely with NVI in advancing veterinary diagnostic solutions. “We are pleased to partner with the National Veterinary Institute, a respected institution with strong technical expertise and a proven track record in animal health. The Non-Disclosure Agreement was formally signed by Dr. Takele Abayneh, CEO of the National Veterinary Institute, and Mr. Zhou Yang , Manager of Africa and MENA Region at TECON Pharmaceutical Inc. The signing reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to establishing a long-term, strategic, and mutually beneficial partnership.
