National Workshop held at National Veterinary Institute on Advances in Vaccinology
The Research and Development directorate of the National Veterinary Institute (NVI) organized two-day national workshop on Advances in Vaccinology which as conducted from 5 – 6 September 2024 within the premises of the Institute at Bishoftu, Ethiopia.
Dr. Dangachew Beyene, Deputy Board chair of NVI, Pro. Afework Kassu, Director General of AHRI-, Dr. Hamid Jemal Deputy Director General for livestock at, Ethiopian Agricultural Authority and other professional’s from Academia, research, service delivery, regulatory and stakeholders in vaccine value chain were participated on the workshop.
Dr. Takele Abayneh, Director General of NVI, mentioned on his opening speech that this kind of workshop, where almost all stakeholders participated, helps the institute to discuss recent scientific advances contributing to veterinary and human vaccine research development and the challenges in veterinary vaccine value chain for better vaccine accessibility to address the demands of the country’s and foreign vaccine demand.
Dr Berecha Bayissa, the operations Deputy Director General, stressed the importance of the workshop and presented the general principles in vaccine development road map with specific experiences of NVI in this regard.
Dr Mirtineh Akalu, the R&D Directorate Director said the main objective of the workshop is to show the success stories of NVI in veterinary vaccine research and production in the last 60 years. He further presented the six decades of NVI’s vaccine research outputs.
Meanwhile, the workshop brought together the main performers and professionals in vaccine technology to understand the current situation and address future concerns with sharing of experiences.
The National Veterinary Institute is the sole public institute that supports the livestock sector through production and supply of quality veterinary vaccines, drugs and biological with affordable prices for both domestic and export markets.
